One Woman Show
Bethany Tadros, 34, is a single mother to 5-year-old Avalon. An average day looks like getting up at 3:30 AM, studying the Bible, writing, praying, getting ready for the day, getting Avalon up, making breakfast, getting Avalon ready, bringing Avalon to school, going to work, running errands, picking Avalon up, playing together, making dinner, doing bath time, doing bedtime, and then going to bed herself; all on her own, all to be done again the next day.
What Bethany does is not unique. Central New York has the second-highest percentage of single-parent households, 11.5%, in the state, and is well above the statewide average. However, single-parenthood is historically underreported, with only 20% of single parents in Central New York actually being counted in the census, meaning the actual number of single parents is much higher than we think.
Bethany became a single mother when her daughter was just one year old. For Avalon, a life with just her mother is all she knows. Bethany has learned how to balance wearing several hats; she is a new real estate agent while also taking on jobs as a substitute teacher and working at the YMCA to supplement her income. Bethany is also very involved in her church, running a single-parents group, participating in an all-women's bible study, and holding her ministry license.
