Culture Keeper: The Life of a Mohawk Artist

Tracy Thomas is a Native American artist living in Syracuse, New York, his ancestral land as a member of the Wolf Clan and Mohawk Nation. Tracy was born and raised in the Onondaga Nation, which sits just south of the City of Syracuse. Through his artwork, which consists largely of woodburning, painting and beading, Tracy preserves culture and shares stories of the natural world, his community and its traditions. Though quiet, Tracy’s life is rich in connection, whether it comes from selling his work at large arts and craft fairs or during his daily trips to the local gas station.
